Our solutions for marking and coding plastics

Demanding material: plastic

Printing on plastics is almost as common in industrial production as printing on cardboard. This is because wherever separate outer packaging is not used or markings have to be multiple, manufacturers have to look at labeling methods for plastics and plastic. Not only in consumer goods manufacturing, but also in the automotive and electrical industries, for building supplies or semi-finished products. Each plastic has specific properties with regard to composition, elasticity and color. It contains substrates, sometimes plasticizers, and other sophisticated components. A suitable marking system should be flexible to cope with these different materials and at the same time ensure high production speed and readability.

The supreme discipline of plastics marking

Regardless of the material, marking smooth surfaces permanently, cost-effectively and efficiently is already a challenging task. Plastic surfaces are often even more difficult to mark due to their special nature: The substrates of rigid plastic packaging, polyethylene (PE) and high-density polyethylene (HDPE), namely provide ink-repellent surfaces. The edding ink portfolio and Citronix CIJ systems are particularly well suited to these requirements – they can be used to mark virtually any surface made of plastic. The various properties and associated reactions of the plastics must also be taken into account when selecting a suitable laser marking process. The Elried team will be happy to create sample prints to check adhesion and print quality.  to be verified on the target material.
